Dear Orchestra Families,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year. My name is Charles Laux and I will be your child’s orchestra director. I’m proud and excited to be beginning my 31st year teaching and my 5th at Lassiter. We have a fantastic year of music learning planned! I will send emails through CTLS parent regularly. In addition, I post each newsletter on our website at www.LassiterOrchestra.org/news, so please bookmark our site.
The first assignments of the year will be in the “Orchestra Beginning of the Year” (OBOY) Unit. There is a checklist of assignments that students need to complete soon. Some of this involves you, too. I’ve given students a handout with the information and it’s also in CTLS. Parents should see below or the attached handout for details.
We will have an Orchestra Parent Meeting on Wednesday, August 12 at 7 PM in the theater (not concert hall). We will go over our new donation campaign to offset student orchestra dues, uniforms, the concert schedule, expectations, and more. We will make sure we are efficient and respectful of your time. Also, we will stay as long as necessary to answer any questions you might have.

Orchestra Beginning of the Year (OBOY) Unit
1. Introduce Yourself (using Padlet)
LassiterOrchestra.org/introduce due Wednesday, August 5. This will help you get to know your classmates and those in other classes.
2. Join the BAND app or update your profile. LassiterOrchestra.org/band-app Enter your first and last name, then in the profile are put your instrument, class, and grade. Enable notifications. Due Wednesday, August 5.

4. Student and parent information form – LassiterOrchestra.org/submit-information due Friday, August 7
5. Obtain donations to pay for your orchestra dues – lassiterorchestra.org/donate Every student must raise or pay a minimum of $200. Send the link out to everyone you can so that your friends, family, and other loved ones can help!
6. Read the Orchestra Handbook – LassiterOrchestra.org/handbook
7. Mark dates in your calendar – LassiterOrchestra.org/calendar
8. Order your concert uniform (or check current uniform for fit) – LassiterOrchestra.org/uniforms
9. Handbook Acceptance Agreement – Sign and return the hard copy paper form due Friday, August 14. Forms are available from Dr. Laux in class.
10. Handbook Quiz – Available Monday, August 10 in CTLS. Due Friday, August 14 at 11:59 PM. To be completed after fully reading the handbook.
