Good morning, orchestra parents!

A few important reminders…

1. Parent Meeting
Tonight (8/8/23)is the parent meeting for all orchestra parents.  We will meet at 7:30 PM in the orchestra room.  We will discuss the orchestra association, budget, camp, uniforms, and more. To access the orchestra room, you’ll walk to the RIGHT of the school and the construction fences, just next to the concert hall and band building.

2. Student assignments
Students currently have three assignments:

A. Introduce yourself! (on Flip)
Students will record a short video on Flip, introducing themselves to the orchestra family.  This is part of our community building initiative.  Details/links in CTLS.  Due Friday.

B. Handbook Acceptance
Parents and students should read the orchestra handbook, then sign off that it has been read and understood by using the handbook acceptance form.  Links on CTLS and here.  Due tomorrow, August 9.

C. Baseline assessment – Scale and arpeggio.
Students will record the requested scale and arpeggio on Flip.  Directions on CTLS. Dr. Laux will use this as a baseline measurment and a snapshot of the students essential technical ability for this year.  We will re-record this assessment at the end of the year to measure student growth of instrument position, posture, bow hold, tone production, shifting, and intonation.  Due Monday, August 14.

3. Orchestra Camp
Our Fall Orchestra Camp is this Saturday, August 12.  It is a REQUIRED event for all orchestra students.  There are two parts:  The required instructional portion is from 9:00 to 4:00 PM.  Students should check in starting at 8:40 AM.

The optional portion (BUT FUN!) are the Olympic-style games, pizza/snacks/soda, and neon glow party that will run from 4:15-8:00 PM.  We will have a DJ and everything!!  There is no cost to attend (all paid for by LHSOA!)  and all students are strongly encouraged to attend.  Students must RSVP by TOMORROW for the optional activities through the BAND app.

4. BAND App
CCSD has been throttled on the Remind app, so we are moving to a new platform called BAND.  It’s a great app that offers more than Remind and will help me continue to build community and increase communication.  I’ll be able to accept RSVPs, create events, and send out reminders and such.  Students should download the BAND app on their phones and/or use the https://Band.us website.

5. Orchestra Fees
This year’s orchestra fees can be paid on our website via paypal/venmo. We also accept additional donations as part of our “Friends of the Orchestra” campaign.

That’s all for now.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  I’m so excited about this school year!

Best,

Dr. Laux
